The UK has 66 'official' cities, this website explains what constitutes city status in the UK, with the various conflicting definitions of the word 'city', including the official definition. They have compiled some commonly sought after tables - a list of the largest cities in the UK, a list of the oldest cities in the UK, and a list of dates of incorporation (where known) of the UK's cities.

They have also compiled a city guide for each of the United Kingdom's 66 cities. These guides provide limited demographic data and a basic introduction to each city, touching on their history and their claims to fame. They also list contact details for each city's official city council website.

In addition, UK Cities have created special individual directories of local shops and services for most of the larger cities including Greater London, Bristol, Leicester, Greater Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

UK Cities is organised into country subsections for Great Britain (that is England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland.

Britain Express was begun in 1996 as a labour of love by committed anglophile David Ross, aided by enthusiastic volunteer assistance. Somewhat like Dr. Frankenstein's little experiment, things grew, and took on a life of their own, until today, when, to the best of their knowledge, Britain Express is one of the largest non-government sources of information about the UK. Though they're often flattered to be mistaken for an official tourist board, Britain Express receives no government funding whatever, and has no relation with any tourism body.

Britain Express is now owned and operated as Britain Express Limited, but it is still designed, written, photographed, and edited by David Ross and family. They're continuing to grow the website, and expand their coverage of the UK, with information and photos of places to visit.

Chortle was set up by journalist Steve Bennett in February 2000 with the aim of being the most comprehensive, critical and up-to-date guide to the all aspects of comedy in Britain. Today, the site is the premier source of comedy news, reviews and listings and attracts around 120,000 unique visitors every month.

Their priority is to keep up-to-date information on all the comedy gigs they know of. The site is constantly updated, and their aim  is to put any information supplied to them on the site within 48 hours, though this is not always possible at busy times.

Do be aware that things do change, often and at the last minute, and the line-up they list may differ from who actually appears. If in doubt, check before travelling.

Ireland is recognised as being the outstanding fishing holiday destination in Europe. The vast variety and quality of fishing in Ireland has given the country a reputation of which we are justly proud.

The Central Fisheries Board is a statutory body with responsibility for inland fisheries and sea angling operating under the aegis of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and was established under the Fisheries Act 1980.

Through the Irishguidelive website, Webtrade Communications aim to provide a local guide and complete community directory of businesses throughout Ireland. From an architect in Athenry, to a butcher in Ballydehob, you'll find the exact service or company you are looking for here.

Linked from the Irishguidelive homepage, each county has its own dedicated website, which includes a comprehensive community directory. With a list of clearly defined categories, the information within each directory is easy to navigate and although linked under the umbrella of Irishguidelive.com, firmly maintains a local independence.

Local news and events for each county are also regularly updated, keeping communities informed about their area. If you have an event or festival in your area you would like to advertise, let us know and we will post the information for you.

Look out for some great prizes in our new competition section. Competitions on the site are ongoing, with prizes including weekends away, dinner for two and more... Each county also has its own community forum, so there are plenty of opportunities for visitors to get chatting too.

Golfing

With such a wealth of golf courses and its famous hospitality, it's no wonder that Ireland is gaining a reputation as a premier golfing destination. But the best part of Irish golf is what perhaps makes it most different from golf anywhere else: simplicity. The game is remarkably unspoiled.

Angling

With the abundance of coastline and inland waterways, Ireland is the perfect destination for all types of angling holidays. Salmon, trout and sea trout are native species with an honoured place in Irish culture, and Ireland's lakes and rivers have preserved their character in a landscape which has changed very little over the centuries.

Festivals & Events

The Irish people have never needed much of an excuse to have a party or festival, whether it be based on art, culture, music, history or sport. A festival in Ireland is a unique expierience. We have listed some of the main Irish festivals held throughout the country and their website addresses where you can find out more detailed information.

ireland-guide.com resulted from the growing need for our internationally respected and acclaimed hospitality guide and cookbook company to develop a strong on-line presence from which to reach our rapidly growing market - whether it is the international tourist researching their holiday/vacation or the office bound professional seeking a spot of lunch - we cater for every discerning traveller and diners wide range of needs. Such is the early success of our fledgling website that we now get in the region of 150,000 unique visitors each month from Ireland, the US, the UK and many more countries.

The website itself is the pool of quality establishments from which we select the entrants for our various, more highly selective guides. For example, on the website you will find more information about the many standard 3 and 4 star hotels that exist in Ireland than in our guides - where due to space limitations they are only listed in a Roundup or list section at the end of each chapter - these are signified by the letter R on the site. These hotels serve a purpose and cater very well to the business traveller and city weekenders needs, but may not be as interesting to the discerning independent traveller as a family run georgian townhouse that is full of character.

This website is an extremely good place to initially research a holiday or an outing, but we would recommend looking into purchasing one of our growing range of guides to Irish hospitality for the glove box when travelling. This will ensure that you will find only the best places to eat, drink and stay wherever your travels take you in Ireland.

North Wales is small. But our list of attractions is big.

You can visit the locals at Conwy RSPB Nature Reserve, or the not-so-locals at Pili Palas. Take a train to the top of Snowdon, or journey deep inside an electric mountain at Elidir. Tour one of 11 National Trust properties, Erddig comes complete with landscaped parkland (very handy for walking off that Welsh cream tea). And while you're outdoors, you can bike on four wheels at Glasfryn Parc, trot on four legs at Tal y Foel Riding Centre, or try Wales' first bouncing pillow at the Greenwood Forest Park.  And that's the trouble with North Wales, you see. What to do next? Don't worry, this simple-to-use site is packed with attractions. So it's easy to see what makes us so ... well, attractive.
